The Healthy Optimal Australian Microbiome (HOAM) Study The Healthy Optimal Australian Microbiome (HOAM) Study is a research project being conducted at the UNSW Microbiome Research Centre. The aim of this study is to define what the optimal microbiome looks like in the Australian population.
We are currently seeking a range of volunteers to participate including
Teenagers aged 13 to 18 Adults aged 19 to 65 who are fit and active Adults aged 19 to 65 who are sedendary (less than 3 hours of excercise per week) Professional or elite athletes (aged 19- 45) Adults aged 65 to 95 and older without a diagnosis of dementia Adults aged 65 to 95 and older, with a diagnosis of dementia If you choose to participate in the study, you will be asked to
Provide a small sample of your stool (poo) Provide a swab from inside of your mouth Provide a sample of your blood (no more than 20 mL) Provide a sample of your urine Complete some non-invasive clinical assessments and questions about your lifestyle and dietary habits Complete a computer-based brain game (optional) Complete some assessments which test your cognition Would you like to take part ? The microbiome is affected by many factors in our day to day lifes. For this reason we will need to ask some questions about your lifestyle and medical history.

The human microbiome is affected by many things in our day to day life.
If you participate in the study you will also be asked questions related to your daily life such as: what you do for work, your sexual orientation, ethnicity, household income, what you eat and drink, how much you exercise, medications you currently take etc.
